An extraordinary halal sandwich experience unlike any you have ever tasted! URBAN eat caters to suit the modern Muslim consumer and guarantees to. This is the claim from Urban Eat brand manufacturers.
The producers of Urban Eat brand halal sandwiches list the following sandwiches and wraps as halal certified and even had a depiction of the Halal Food Authrity (HFA Approved) logo, even though the HFA website does not have any mention of the Urban Eat products in its certified products section:
- Halal Bombay Chicken
- Chicken Salad
- Halal Piri Piri Chicken
- Halal Red Thai Chicken Wrap
- Halal Bombay Chicken & Potato Wrap
Upon a visit to Urban Eat website it is clear that they also produce Pork based products on site. This has raised fears of increased risk of contamination from non-halal products. This has been particularity heightened as HFA was recently involved in the Pork Gate scandal for Halal pies of Muslim prisoners.
The Halal Food Authority has come under immense criticism from Muslim groups, and consumers through out the UK for certifying Halal Pies for Muslim inmates, which contained traces of Pork. It was also condemned in many media reports for issuing halal certificates without an adequate system of monitoring and regular checks.
Confidence is already low and there have been calls by many prominent Muslims for a boycott of products certified by the Halal Food Authority.
