The inaugural Islamic Finance Leadership Programme took place on Sept 20th – Sept 24th in the leafy surroundings of Markfield, Leicestershire, UK. Senior figures from the Islamic banking and finance industry joined with aspirants looking to advance their career into the top management. The four day programme took place under the auspices of Markfield Institute of Higher Education, a leading organisation in Islamic financial education.
The IFLP is a gathering of current leaders with the experience and knowledge to guide the young crop of talented and passionate Islamic financial practitioners. Participants congregate to learn, discuss and formulate strategies for industry growth. Industry leaders guided participants through regaling them of their own experiences, and explaining the subtleties of the industry that only a leader would know.
The first IFLP explored issues such as the need for leadership and ethics- Nurturing Values Based People, building effective leaders and organisations in a globalised world, establishing leadership in new market, standardization of Islamic finance qualifications, problems with leadership in Islamic banking and finance etc.
Presented by senior figures, aspirants had the opportunity to learn and interact in order to develop and refine their own skills and understanding.The delegates also benefited from the interviews with leading practitioners where they were able to interact and ask questions. This exclusive group of Islamic financial practitioners benefited from extensive periods of discussion, social interaction and networking, and built strong relationships showing the inclusivity and bonds found in the industry.
On successfully concluding the inaugural IFLP Professor Humayon Dar, Chairman Edbiz Corporation stated “the Islamic finance industry needs leaders and this programme creates leaders, participants had the opportunity to learn from CEO’s who are driving Islamic finance forward. The success of the event has encouraged the organiser to branch out and the second IFLP will be organised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia between 19th- 23rd March 2014 followed by the third in Muscat, Oman in November 2014.
