The following is a poem, in the form of a sonnet, composed by a Grade 12 student for his English assignment.
How Can I?
Before I abandon the blessings
On my oversized platter;
I must remember the sufferings
Of the children who have forgotten their laughter.
They patiently stand in line,
Craving for something to eat;
While I sit and dine,
Feasting on some succulent, tender, meat.
How can I reject
What God has bestowed upon me?
May us all He protect,
From the tribulations of staying hungry.
So before I carp about what I’m being fed,
I should remember those who must line-up for their daily bread.
