What is the ruling on the use of “Sorbitol”. In the dictionary it is defined as an alcoholic extract from fruits; however, it is used in many consumer products, including some Crest toothpaste, breathmints, etc….?

Chemically, sorbitol is an alcohol. However, not all types of alcohol are haram. Only ethyl alcohol is haram. Therefore, there is no problem with sorbitol.
